Undergraduate Research Program

The deadline for grant application is March 15, 2008

A limited number of summer jobs are available to physics majors and prospective majors who want to explore specific areas of research. Summer research positions are arranged informally, with students approaching individual faculty members. Summer research is sponsored by the research group the student is working for.

Applicants are expected to devote a minimum of 8 weeks to their summer job in the physics department.

Summer grants

A limited number of departmental summer grants are available for physics majors and prospective physics majors who work during the summer with physics faculty for a minimum period of 8 weeks. These grants are given directly to the research group, and are used to defray the students’ summer salary. Physics majors and prospective majors who are planning to get a summer job in the department are encouraged to apply for these grants by submitting an online application. The submitted applications will be available to the faculty online. Interested groups might contact the applicants for interviews.

Summer opportunities elsewhere

Consider also research opportunities elsewhere -- many national laboratories and research institutions run summer internship programs.
